Macula Degeneration
Macula Degeneration (MD) is the most common age related eye disease, affecting mostly the elderly. The main symptom of this disease is a loss of vision which can happen slowly over time. In less common circumstances a Bleeding type of Macular Degeneration is diagnosed, the main symptom being a sudden loss of vision.
Macular Degeneration is, in medical terms the thinning and deterioration of the Retina in the central position (behind the eye) called the Macula. Unhealthy lifestyle choices can also effect and contribute highly to an early diagnosis of MD.
Vision loss is detected by an Optometrist. At this stage the Optometrist can offer several options to suit individual requirement needs. It is important to have regular eye examinations to update these visual requirements.
